Textomur® Airolo (Switzerland) - a massive dam protects the village from avalanches

The protective dam of 220 m length (incl. both sides of 50 m each), 18 m height and a view area of 4000 m² protects the village from the hazards of avalanches. It is located at an altitude of 1273 m above sea level and was built in a 3-year construction period from 2002 to 2004.

Textomur is a system for steep slopes, retaining structures and protective banks. It lends itself to full-surface grassing and plant growth. The construction in Airolo is in the main made from ground material which was available directly on the site.

This Textomurconstruction impresses by its size and the fact that it fits nearly invisibly into the natural environment of the village of Airolo. It consists of a block wall at the base and is then built up in layers using 76,500 m² of reinforcing fabric Datex KN with Optiforce plus 13,500 m² of vegetation nonwoven, both produced by Landolt.
